PrestaShop

How to add the Otto chat code to a PrestaShop 8 or 9 store with a module or through the theme template, check it and fix it when it does not show.

On this page

PrestaShop is an open source platform for online stores. Its admin has no field for custom code, so you add the chat code with a custom HTML module, or your developer adds it to the theme template. With a ready module it takes about 15 minutes.

What you need

  • An Otto account. You find the chat code in the panel under Overview, on the Installation & integrations card, on the PrestaShop tile.
  • PrestaShop 8 or 9. The steps are the same for the Classic and Hummingbird themes.
  • For the module way: admin access with permission to install modules, and a custom HTML code module, for example from PrestaShop Addons.
  • For the template way: a developer with access to the theme files.

Chat code

On the PrestaShop tile, click Copy code. You get one line with your company’s public key:

<script async src="https://ottoai.sk/widget.js" data-otto-key="pk_vas_kluc"></script>
The sample shows pk_vas_kluc instead of a key, the tile gives you the code with your own key. The key is not a password, you do not need to hide it. Add the code once, it covers the whole site.

Adding the code

Custom HTML module

  1. Get a module that adds custom HTML code to every page of your store and can place it at the end of the page, in the displayBeforeBodyClosingTag hook.
  2. In the admin, open Modules, Module Manager, click Upload a module and select the module ZIP file.
  3. After the installation, click Configure next to the module.
  4. Paste the chat code into the module field, choose displayBeforeBodyClosingTag as the position and save the settings.
  5. Check that the whole line stayed in the field, including data-otto-key. Some modules strip the <script> tag when saving.
  6. Open Advanced Parameters, Performance and click Clear cache.

Theme template (developer)

  1. Send the chat code to the developer who looks after your store theme.
  2. They add it in a child theme to templates/layouts/layout-both-columns.tpl just before </body>.
  3. Then open Advanced Parameters, Performance and click Clear cache.
The module has to output the code line exactly as it is, including data-otto-key.
Do not add the code to the original theme, a theme update would overwrite the edit. It belongs in a child theme.

You can also follow the official PrestaShop help.

Checking it works

  1. Open your website in a new browser window and reload. A chat bubble should pop up in the bottom right.
  2. Send the chat a test question. Otto answers within a few seconds.
  3. In the panel, under Settings, Connections, the Your website row shows the domain the chat runs on.

Product catalogue

A Heureka or Google Merchant (XML) feed is made by a module from PrestaShop Addons or another developer. You find the feed address in the module settings.

Paste the feed address in the panel under Settings, Catalogue, and click Check feed. The panel tells you how many products it found, and Otto keeps the feed up to date on its own. More in Product catalogue.

Troubleshooting

Part of the code is missing after saving the module

The module removed the <script> tag or the data-otto-key attribute when saving. Use a module that adds the code unchanged, or the theme template way.

The module offers no position at the end of the page

Open Design, Positions, click Hook a module and choose the module and the displayBeforeBodyClosingTag hook. If the module does not support it, pick another module.

The chat disappeared after a theme update

The code was in the original theme and the update overwrote it. Your developer should add it to a child theme.

My admin is in Slovak or Czech

In Slovak the items are Moduly, Manažér modulov, Nahrať modul and Rozšírené nastavenia, Výkon, Vyprázdniť vyrovnávaciu pamäť. In Czech they are Moduly, Správce modulů, Nahrát modul and Nástroje, Výkon, Vyčistit mezipaměť.

Also check

  • Reload the page without cache with Ctrl+F5, or open it in a private window.
  • The code should be on the page only once, a second copy is ignored.
  • A cookie consent bar can block scripts until the visitor agrees. If the chat only shows up after consent, see Cookie consent.
  • If your site sends a Content-Security-Policy header, allow https://ottoai.sk in it, as shown in Content-Security-Policy.
  • In the browser console (F12), look for messages starting with [Otto]. They tell you what the chat is missing.
  • Still nothing? Write to us at podpora@ottoai.sk and include your website address.

Removing the chat

With a module, delete the code in the module or disable the module in Modules, Module Manager. With the template, your developer deletes the line. Then click Clear cache in Advanced Parameters, Performance.
