Where to paste the Otto chat code in Upgates, where to turn on the Heureka feed and what to do when the chat or the feed does not show.

Upgates is a platform for renting an online store. You paste the chat code into the custom conversion codes, which load on every page, and turn on the Heureka feed in the Heureka add-on. It takes about 5 minutes, and the steps give the Czech admin names with their meaning in brackets.

What you need

  • An Otto account. You find the chat code in the panel under Overview, on the Installation & integrations card, on the Upgates tile.
  • Access to the Doplňky (Add-ons) section of the Upgates admin.
  • For the feed, a paid project running live. On an unpaid project Upgates does not generate the feed automatically.

Chat code

On the Upgates tile, click Copy code. You get one line with your company’s public key:

The sample shows pk_vas_kluc instead of a key, the tile gives you the code with your own key. The key is not a password, you do not need to hide it. Add the code once, it covers the whole site.

Adding the code

  1. In the Upgates admin open Doplňky, Vlastní konverzní kódy (Custom conversion codes).
  2. In Kódy umístěné na všech stránkách (Codes placed on all pages), paste the chat code into the field that places it before the </body> tag.
  3. Click Uložit (Save).

The chat ties itself to the address where it first appears, and it does not move away from an Upgates trial address on its own. If your store is not on its own domain yet, write to Otto support before you paste the code, and they will add the other address.

Checking it works

  1. Open your website in a new browser window and reload. A chat bubble should pop up in the bottom right.
  2. Send the chat a test question. Otto answers within a few seconds.
  3. In the panel, under Settings, Connections, the Your website row shows the domain the chat runs on.

Product catalogue

Turn on the Heureka feed in Doplňky, Heureka, in the Export produktů (Product export) part, with the Aktivovat (Activate) button, where you also find its address. Upgates generates it four times a day, around 4:00, 10:00, 16:00 and 22:00, and one run takes up to an hour. Use the product feed, not the availability feed.

Paste the feed address in the panel under Settings, Catalogue, and click Check feed. The panel tells you how many products it found, and Otto keeps the feed up to date on its own. More in Product catalogue.

Troubleshooting

The feed is not generated

On an unpaid project Upgates does not generate the feed automatically, and for a test you create it with the Vygenerovat jednorázově (Generate once) button. The feed address can change when the store moves to its live domain, so then paste the new one into Otto.

Checking the feed returns error 503

Upgates switches a feed off when nobody downloads it for a month, and the next request gets error 503. The feed is created again on the next run, so check it again in a few hours.

The chat only shows after an order is completed

The code sits among the codes for the order completion page. Move it to Kódy umístěné na všech stránkách and save.

Also check

  • Reload the page without cache with Ctrl+F5, or open it in a private window.
  • The code should be on the page only once, a second copy is ignored.
  • A cookie consent bar can block scripts until the visitor agrees. If the chat only shows up after consent, see Cookie consent.
  • If your site sends a Content-Security-Policy header, allow https://ottoai.sk in it, as shown in Content-Security-Policy.
  • In the browser console (F12), look for messages starting with [Otto]. They tell you what the chat is missing.

Removing the chat
