Unbounce

Where to add the Otto chat code in Unbounce for a whole domain or a single page, which plan you need and what to do when the chat does not show.

On this page

Unbounce is a landing page builder. You add the chat code once for a whole domain with Script Manager, or to a single page in the editor. It takes about 5 minutes.

What you need

  • An Otto account. You find the chat code in the panel under Overview, on the Installation & integrations card, on the Unbounce tile. It is under the More platforms tile, and you can also search for it.
  • The Build plan or higher. The Starter plan has no custom scripts.
  • For Script Manager, your own domain connected in Unbounce. Script Manager does not work on the unbouncepages.com test address.

Chat code

On the Unbounce tile, click Copy code. You get one line with your company’s public key:

<script async src="https://ottoai.sk/widget.js" data-otto-key="pk_vas_kluc"></script>
The sample shows pk_vas_kluc instead of a key, the tile gives you the code with your own key. The key is not a password, you do not need to hide it. Add the code once, it covers the whole site.

Adding the code

Whole domain (Script Manager)

  1. In the left menu, click Settings and choose Script Manager.
  2. Click Add a Script in the top right, keep Custom Script, enter a name such as Otto and click Add Script Details.
  3. In Placement choose Before Body End Tag and in Included on keep Main Landing Page.
  4. Paste the whole chat code including the <script> tag into the editor.
  5. Check your domain on the right and click Save Changes.

One page (Javascripts)

  1. Open the page in the editor and click Javascripts at the bottom.
  2. Click Add New JavaScript and enter a script name.
  3. In Placement choose Before Body End Tag and paste the whole chat code including the <script> tag.
  4. Click Done, save the page (Save) and publish it (Publish or Republish).
Otto binds to the domain where the chat first shows. Publish the page with the chat straight on your own domain, not on unbouncepages.com.

You can also follow the official Unbounce help.

Checking it works

  1. Open your website in a new browser window and reload. A chat bubble should pop up in the bottom right.
  2. Send the chat a test question. Otto answers within a few seconds.
  3. In the panel, under Settings, Connections, the Your website row shows the domain the chat runs on.
Unbounce does not run custom code in the editor or in Preview, so the chat shows only on the published page.

What Otto knows about your site

Otto answers from the pages of your website and from the knowledge you add in the panel. Once the chat runs on your site, turn on I have no XML feed, let Otto read my site in the panel under Settings, Catalogue. More in Reading your website.

Troubleshooting

Script Manager does not offer my domain

Script Manager works only with your own domain connected in Unbounce. Connect the domain first, then check it for the script.

I cannot add a custom script

Unbounce offers custom scripts from the Build plan. You change the plan in Account Management, Subscriptions.

The code is in Script Manager and in the page Javascripts

Unbounce would run it twice on the page. Delete it from the page in Javascripts and republish the page, keep it in Script Manager.

Also check

  • Reload the page without cache with Ctrl+F5, or open it in a private window.
  • The code should be on the page only once, a second copy is ignored.
  • A cookie consent bar can block scripts until the visitor agrees. If the chat only shows up after consent, see Cookie consent.
  • If your site sends a Content-Security-Policy header, allow https://ottoai.sk in it, as shown in Content-Security-Policy.
  • In the browser console (F12), look for messages starting with [Otto]. They tell you what the chat is missing.
  • Still nothing? Write to us at podpora@ottoai.sk and include your website address.

Removing the chat

In Settings, Script Manager, open the cog next to the script and disable or delete it. If the code is in a single page, delete it in Javascripts and republish the page.
