BigCommerce
How to add the Otto chat code through Script Manager in BigCommerce, where to get a product feed, and why the chat does not show at checkout.
On this page
BigCommerce is an online store platform. You add the chat code as a new script in Script Manager, and BigCommerce puts it on your store pages. It takes about 5 minutes.
What you need
- An Otto account. You find the chat code in the panel under Overview, on the Installation & integrations card, on the BigCommerce tile. It is under the More platforms tile, and you can also search for it.
- A store with a Stencil theme. The old Blueprint theme engine does not show scripts from Script Manager.
Chat code
On the BigCommerce tile, click Copy code. You get one line with your company’s public key:
<script async src="https://ottoai.sk/widget.js" data-otto-key="pk_vas_kluc"></script>pk_vas_kluc instead of a key, the tile gives you the code with your own key. The key is not a password, you do not need to hide it. Add the code once, it covers the whole site.Adding the code
- In the admin, open Storefront, Script Manager and click Create a Script.
- Enter a script name, for example Otto chat.
- Choose the Footer placement and Storefront pages.
- Choose the Functional category and the Script type.
- Paste the whole chat code, including the
<script>tag, into the script contents field and save the script.
If you run several storefronts (Multi-Storefront), each one has its own Script Manager in its settings in Channel Manager. Add the script to every storefront that should have the chat.
You can also follow the official BigCommerce help.
Checking it works
- Open your website in a new browser window and reload. A chat bubble should pop up in the bottom right.
- Send the chat a test question. Otto answers within a few seconds.
- In the panel, under Settings, Connections, the Your website row shows the domain the chat runs on.
Product catalogue
BigCommerce does not create a Heureka feed. A Heureka or Google format feed with a public address is made by a product feed app from the BigCommerce App Marketplace.
Paste the feed address in the panel under Settings, Catalogue, and click Check feed. The panel tells you how many products it found, and Otto keeps the feed up to date on its own. More in Product catalogue.
Troubleshooting
The chat only shows after cookie consent
Cookie consent tracking is on. BigCommerce loads Functional scripts only after the shopper allows that category. You can change the script category in Script Manager, and Essential scripts always load.
I cannot find Script Manager
With several storefronts, it is in the settings of each storefront in Channel Manager. A store on the old Blueprint theme engine has no Script Manager, its scripts only show with a Stencil theme.
The chat is missing from the customer account and login pages
Besides checkout, the Storefront pages option also leaves out My Account, saved payment methods and login. The chat runs on all other store pages.
Also check
- Reload the page without cache with Ctrl+F5, or open it in a private window.
- The code should be on the page only once, a second copy is ignored.
- A cookie consent bar can block scripts until the visitor agrees. If the chat only shows up after consent, see Cookie consent.
- If your site sends a Content-Security-Policy header, allow
https://ottoai.skin it, as shown in Content-Security-Policy. - In the browser console (F12), look for messages starting with
[Otto]. They tell you what the chat is missing. - Still nothing? Write to us at podpora@ottoai.sk and include your website address.
Removing the chat
In Storefront, Script Manager, delete the chat script.
