Jimdo

Where to add the Otto chat code in Jimdo Creator, why it is not possible in Jimdo Website Builder and what to do when the chat does not show.

On this page

Jimdo has two products, Jimdo Creator and Jimdo Website Builder. Only Jimdo Creator allows custom code, and you add the chat code to the website head in its settings. It takes about 5 minutes.

What you need

  • An Otto account. You find the chat code in the panel under Overview, on the Installation & integrations card, on the Jimdo tile. It is under the More platforms tile, and you can also search for it.
  • A website in Jimdo Creator. You can tell by the editor address, which starts with https://cms.e.jimdo.com/, or by the site address .jimdoweb.com or .jimdofree.com.
  • Access to the Jimdo account that holds the website.

Chat code

On the Jimdo tile, click Copy code. You get one line with your company’s public key:

<script async src="https://ottoai.sk/widget.js" data-otto-key="pk_vas_kluc"></script>
The sample shows pk_vas_kluc instead of a key, the tile gives you the code with your own key. The key is not a password, you do not need to hide it. Add the code once, it covers the whole site.

Adding the code

  1. Log in to Jimdo, choose the website and click Edit to open the editor.
  2. Open the Menu in the top left and choose Settings.
  3. Click Edit Head.
  4. Paste the chat code into the field. Keep any code that is already there and add the chat below it.
  5. Click Save.

The names come from the English Jimdo interface. In the German interface, look for Einstellungen, Head bearbeiten.

Jimdo Website Builder does not allow custom code, scripts or widgets, so the chat cannot run there. For custom code, Jimdo recommends Jimdo Creator.

You can also follow the official Jimdo help.

Checking it works

  1. Open your website in a new browser window and reload. A chat bubble should pop up in the bottom right.
  2. Send the chat a test question. Otto answers within a few seconds.
  3. In the panel, under Settings, Connections, the Your website row shows the domain the chat runs on.

Product catalogue

The Jimdo Creator help does not describe an XML product feed for comparison sites. If you sell through a Jimdo store, turn on I have no XML feed, let Otto read my site in the panel.

Troubleshooting

I cannot find Edit Head in the settings

Your website is probably in Jimdo Website Builder, which does not allow custom code. If you use Jimdo Creator and do not see the field, contact Jimdo support.

How do I know whether I use Jimdo Creator or Website Builder

The Jimdo Creator editor address starts with https://cms.e.jimdo.com/ and has a menu in the top left. Website Builder has its editor at https://builder.e.jimdo.com/ and the site at a .jimdosite.com address.

The website is in Under Construction Mode

In this mode Jimdo hides the website content from visitors. Turn it off in Menu, Settings, Privacy & Security, on the Under Construction Mode tab.

Also check

  • Reload the page without cache with Ctrl+F5, or open it in a private window.
  • The code should be on the page only once, a second copy is ignored.
  • A cookie consent bar can block scripts until the visitor agrees. If the chat only shows up after consent, see Cookie consent.
  • If your site sends a Content-Security-Policy header, allow https://ottoai.sk in it, as shown in Content-Security-Policy.
  • In the browser console (F12), look for messages starting with [Otto]. They tell you what the chat is missing.
  • Still nothing? Write to us at podpora@ottoai.sk and include your website address.

Removing the chat

In Menu, Settings, Edit Head, delete the chat code from the field, keep the rest of the code and click Save.
